Mental Health | Vol 1

Mental Health is a series of comics that are not intended to make you laugh. Sometimes you will, just because I find funny spots in my own mental health journey. And sometimes I find humor in places that others don’t or can’t. In any case, mental health was taboo when I was young. It was downright uncool before that. Well, until Woody Allen talked about his analyst. I’m guessing, I don’t have time to see if that makes sense on the American Taboo of Mental Health Timeline. We need to keep going though, we need to normalize it so much that it is an essential part of health care instead of a bonus for those who can afford it. Most of those that need it the most can’t pay for it. I’ve been there myself, and in those moments, it would have been nice to read about how I wasn’t alone. Or even force a chuckle at my expense.

Vacations are the best and worst time for a regular drawing practice. Last year I plowed through comics while driving to Niagara Falls, This year, I went camping nearby and totally didn’t draw a damn thing. But it’s not about perfection. Enjoy my vacations and my love of nature.

Friends is a series of comics based on my friends. Sometimes I write about more complex issues, like losing a friend, or friends that change. Sometimes it’s about the best friends that love me exactly who I am, and how I met them. Friends are for sure the family you choose, and when you have had some questionable family interactions, friends are the people that prove that the world has love in it, you just have to be picky about where you put yours.

I’m one of those kids that went straight from Mommy to Mom, and when in public, it’s “MA!” It does make everyone turn and look. While I’m a very proud parent of my human child, I have been a DogMa for as many years as I’ve been on my own. These goofballs do some crazy stuff sometimes and I just have to share it. DogMa is a series about all things parenting dogs, and the amazing things they do to enhance your life and teach and share empathy.
